About Dr. Scott Walmer
“You can’t get better if you don’t feel safe. I strive to help my patients feel understood, to convey a sense of reassuring competence and to treat the person, not just the diagnosis.”
Board certified in psychiatry and forensic psychiatry and broadly experienced in the practices, Dr. Scott Walmer treats a wide range of mental health disorders at Beaufort Memorial Sea Island Psychiatry. He uses nonpharmacological therapies, including psychotherapy, and medication as indicated to help his adult patients return to health.
Areas of Expertise
- Mood Disorders – Persistent distortions of mood that interfere with ability to function. Examples are major depression and bipolar disorder.

- Suicide Risk Assessment and Mitigation – Identification of a person at risk for suicide and active preventive intervention and treatment.
- Psychosis – A mental disorder characterized by severely impaired thinking and feeling that results in loss of contact with external reality.
- Personality Disorders – Deeply ingrained patterns of behavior that cause difficulties in interpersonal relationships and ability to function in society.
Video Visits
Dr. Walmer prefers in-person visits, which he believes improve the quality of communication and care delivery. Virtual visits may be available in certain circumstances for patient follow-up. If interested, ask about the option when scheduling.
