About Dr. Alejandro Garcia Salas

"People usually have difficulty with my name, and sometimes they can't remember it. But like the late poet Maya Angelou, I believe that, names aside, 'people will never forget how you made them feel'."

Dr. Alejandro Garcia Salas, a board-certified internal medicine specialist, joined Beaufort Memorial Primary Care in 2017 after retiring as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. At the practice, he works to diagnose and treat acute and chronic illness.

Among Dr. Garcia Salas’s professional interests is helping patients manage chronic diseases and conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and elevated cholesterol levels.

For the last four years the Guatemala native, who is fluent in both English and Spanish, has been a staff physician at Naval Hospital Beaufort. While stationed in the Lowcountry, he was deployed for eight months aboard the USNS Comfort hospital ship.

Earlier, he received postgraduate training in cardiology at Balboa Hospital in San Diego, California, and was a member of humanitarian missions in Oaxaca, Mexico, and Leon, Nicaragua.

Dr. Garcia Salas and his wife, Claudia, a native of Nicaragua, have one young son, Noah. Passionate about soccer, he has over the years been a player, spectator and fan, enjoying every aspect of the sport.
