  • Laparoscopic Surgery – Also called minimally invasive surgery, a type of open surgery in which small incisions are made in the skin of the abdomen to facilitate insertion of instruments.

Background

The Macon, Georgia, native, who came to the Lowcountry from medical residency, says she has known since her introduction to biology in sixth grade that medicine would be her life’s work. As for her choice of specialty, the opportunity to shadow an anesthesiologist during high school helped her determine that she “preferred the other side” of the operating table. While an undergraduate at University of Georgia—from which she received a B.S. in cellular biology summa cum laude—she kept her hand in as a volunteer in a local post-anesthesia care unit. Now, as a physician, she enjoys precepting medical school students and advanced practice providers..

A competitive swimmer from the age of 4, Dr. Place loves Lowcountry beaches, outdoor sports of all kinds and competing in the occasional triathlon. Reading, baking and quilting are favorite indoor pastimes.
