Background
When Dr. Turner began medical school at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine he had no doubt that he wanted to do oncology. He had spent the previous five years “studying how cancer cells grow” as a molecular cancer biology researcher at Duke University. This satisfied his interest in the science of cancer that developed after several family members faced the disease.
Dr. Turner trained as a medical oncology fellow at UNC before practicing medical oncology/hematology in Calhoun, Georgia, for 15 years. Before joining Beaufort Memorial, he served as the Medical Director of Oncology at Peeples Cancer Institute in Dalton, Georgia, since 2020.
Dr. Turner is a competitive tennis player who has played USTA league tennis at various levels. He also loves classic cars. He owns a 1966 Corvette Stingray and a 1986 Jeep CJ7. He and his wife love being part of the Beaufort community after owning a second home on Fripp Island for nearly 20 years.
