About Mrs. Susanne Remynse

“It’s essential to me to treat the whole patient, addressing mind, body and spirit. You can’t ignore any of the three. I strive to make sure that all my patient’s needs are met.”

A board-certified family nurse practitioner, Susanne “Susie” Remynse brings to the care of her patients experience in a variety of medical practice areas and settings. At the Beaufort Memorial Breast Cancer Genetics and High-Risk Program, she works with the hospital’s board-certified breast surgeons to assess patients at above-average risk for breast cancer and counsel them on screening, surveillance and treatment options.

Areas of Expertise

  • Breast Cancer – A cancer, seen primarily though not exclusively in women, in which the cells in the breast grow uncontrollably. The type of breast cancer depends on the type of cells involved.
  • High-Risk Patient Surveillance – Following patients who are at above-average risk of developing breast cancer based on their personal or family history.
  • Breast Cancer Screening – Checking the breasts for cancer before physical symptoms are present. Typical imaging modalities used include mammography and ultrasound.
  • Breast Cancer Treatment – Depending on the stage of the cancer, treatment with one or a combination of options, among them chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.
  • Genetic Counseling – Collecting a patient’s personal and family data to determine how genetics may affect patient and family health. Genetic screening may be recommended to provide a more complete risk profile.

Background

Before joining Beaufort Memorial, Mrs. Remynse was a nurse practitioner at Fairfield Memorial Hospital Urology Clinic in Fairfield, Illinois, where her husband, Louis Remynse, M.D., a board-certified urologist at Beaufort Memorial Urology Specialists, also was employed. At the Illinois practice, she worked with physicians to manage cancer care, assisting with surgeries and acting as a patient advocate. Earlier, she served as a registered nurse in the float pool and in the medical-cardiac and neurological-neurosurgical step-down units at medical centers in Illinois, Georgia and Pennsylvania.

Longtime visitors to and now residents of Hilton Head Island, the Michigan native and her husband have two young sons. In her spare time, she enjoys running, crafting and spending time with her family outside.
