Beaufort Memorial Breast Cancer Genetics & High-Risk Program Welcomes Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner
June 9, 2024To enhance breast-cancer-prevention services for Lowcountry women, Beaufort Memorial added a board-certified nurse practitioner to its Breast Cancer Genetics & High-Risk Program. Susanne Remynse, FNP-BC, works with the hospital’s board-certified and fellowship-trained breast surgeon Tara Grahovac, M.D., to assess patients at above-average risk for breast cancer and counsel them on screening, surveillance and treatment options. She sees patients at Beaufort Memorial Breast Health Center, located at 122 Okatie Center Blvd., Suite 150, in Okatie.
The Michigan native earned a Master of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University in Addison, Illinois, with a family nurse practitioner concentration and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.
Before coming to Beaufort Memorial, Remynse was a nurse practitioner at Fairfield Memorial Hospital Urology Clinic in Fairfield, Illinois, where her husband, Louis Remynse, M.D., a board-certified urologist with Beaufort Memorial Urology Specialists, also was employed. At the Illinois practice, she worked with physicians to manage cancer care, assisting with surgeries and acting as a patient advocate. Earlier, she served as a registered nurse in the float pool and in the medical-cardiac and neurological-neurosurgical step-down units at medical centers in Illinois, Georgia and Pennsylvania.
The Beaufort Memorial Breast Cancer Genetics & High-Risk Program has as its focus the physical and emotional aspects of breast disease. Among the services provided by the program, which aims to ensure an optimal outcome for every patient, is genetic counseling as well as surveillance and treatment as needed for those at above-average risk of developing breast cancer based on their personal or family history.
