About Kate D'Orazio

“Health concerns are frequently multifactorial. I try to be thorough, to listen carefully to my patients and to pay attention to other things besides what’s in front of me that may be affecting their health.”

A certified physician assistant at Beaufort Memorial Wound Care Center, Kate D’Orazio treats patients with complex or nonhealing wounds resulting from disease, burns, trauma, surgery and immobility.

Areas of Expertise

  • Wound Care - Specialized care for complex and nonhealing wounds; includes diagnosis of wound type, assessment of factors that interfere with healing and appropriate treatment.
  • Burns - Damage to skin or tissue that is caused by heat, chemicals, electricity or radiation and classified by degree, with third degree the most serious.
  • Diabetic Foot and Leg Ulcers - Open wounds that occur in approximately 15 percent of people with diabetes, often on the bottom of the foot.
  • Surgical Site Infections – Postsurgical infections that develop wherever a surgery was performed and can occur in any part of the body.
  • Pressure Sores and Bedsores – Injuries resulting from prolonged pressure on skin or underlying tissue, typically seen in patients who are confined to bed or use a wheelchair.

Background

No stranger to Beaufort Memorial, which she considers “like family,” Mrs. D’Orazio served as a full-time physician assistant in the hospital’s Emergency Department from 2013 to 2023. Previously, she worked in inpatient internal medicine and primary care as well as emergency medicine.

In her new role at the Wound Care Center, the Connecticut native looks forward to providing a more specialized kind of care and to spending more time with patients.

A proponent of good nutrition, exercise and overall wellness, Mrs. D’Orazio says she loves “anything outdoors.” She and her husband, Dan, enjoy running and hiking together, being involved in their church and watching their two active boys grow up.
