Beaufort Memorial Harrison Peeples Adds Dr. Lauren Spradley Oglesby
September 6, 2021To expand primary care for adults and children in Hampton County and beyond, Beaufort Memorial Harrison Peeples Health Care Center has added another physician to its clinical team.
Board eligible in internal medicine and pediatrics, Dr. Lauren Spradley Oglesby will join Harrison Peeples later this month after completing her medical residency. Trained in med-peds—a specialty that combines internal medicine and pediatrics—she will work at the practice to prevent, diagnose and treat acute and chronic illness in patients of all ages.
Growing up on a small farm in nearby Effingham County, Georgia, Dr. Oglesby learned the value of family and community. She set her heart on a career in medicine at an early age, and caring for people in rural areas became her goal. The opportunity to practice at Harrison Peeples she describes as “an honor and a privilege.”
No stranger to Hampton County, she once competed in a watermelon-eating contest at its locally famous annual festival.
Dr. Oglesby graduated summa cum laude from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, with a Bachelor of Science in international health and development. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Mercer’s School of Medicine and completed her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.
Besides rural health care, Dr. Oglesby includes among her professional interests adolescent medicine; conditions that exist over a patient’s lifetime (for example, congenital heart disease); and HIV.
“We are very fortunate indeed to add Dr. Oglesby to our medical staff,” said Russell Baxley, president & CEO of Beaufort Memorial. “Her training in med-peds, her passion for rural health care and her knowledge of our local community will be of enormous benefit to her patients.”
At Harrison Peeples Dr. Oglesby joins certified physician assistants Harold “Buck” Harvey and Rebecca Swofford; and certified nurse practitioner Pamela Moore.
Located at 1000 West Pine Street, Varnville, Beaufort Memorial Harrison Peeples Health Care Center provides a full range of general adult and pediatric outpatient medical care, from diagnosis and treatment to case management and total coordination of care across the life spectrum.
Last year, the hospital opened Hampton Specialty Services at Harrison Peeples, offering local residents appointments with Beaufort Memorial board-certified specialists in Varnville. Specialists currently available include general surgeon Dr. Deanna Mansker, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Edward Blocker and cardiologist Dr. Stuart Smalheiser, with plans to expand to other specialties over the next several months.
