Orthopedic Treatments at Beaufort Memorial

Sometimes, a simple diet change, medication or the addition of regular, low-impact exercise is enough to resolve orthopedic issues, including knee pain and back pain, or slow the progression of diseases, such as arthritis.

When at-home care no longer helps, the orthopedic specialists at Beaufort Memorial can offer conservative treatment options, such as injections and physical therapy, as well as advanced surgical treatments to help resolve joint pain. Our providers use both approaches to treat a range of orthopedic conditions, so residents of Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton and Colleton counties can enjoy all the Lowcountry has to offer.

Nonsurgical Joint Pain Treatment Options

Not all joint pain requires surgery, and in many cases, our team can address your pain nonsurgically with:

  • Assistive devices, including walkers and canes
  • Cortisone injections that may temporarily relieve joint pain and/or hyaluronic acid injections, in which a gel is injected directly into the joint to act as a lubricant and reduce pain and stiffness
  • Exercise to help reduce pain, aid weight loss (to ease pressure on joints) and improve function of the joints
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs), such as aspirin and ibuprofen, to provide temporary relief from joint pain
  • Physical therapy, which may include certain strengthening exercises, to manage your joint pain

Advanced Surgical Treatments for Severe Joint Pain

When conservative treatments no longer provide relief, our orthopedic specialists use advanced, minimally invasive surgical procedures to treat joint pain in your knees, hips, shoulders, back pain and many other parts of your body. Those procedures include:

  • Arthroscopy, an outpatient procedure used to treat a number of orthopedic conditions affecting the hands, elbows, shoulders, knees and hips
  • Mako Robotic Arm-Assisted Surgery which uses 3D modeling for greater precision during hip and knee replacements
  • Anterior, posterior and direct superior hip replacements to ease hip pain
  • Spine surgeries that reduce pain, spare healthy tissue and ease recovery
  • Total and partial knee replacements that involve some of today’s most advanced technologies
  • Microsurgical nerve repair to alleviate problems caused by nerve compression

Our orthopedic specialists work with you to find the surgical approach that’s right for you.
