Collins Birthing Center
Since our first birth more than 75 years ago, Beaufort Memorial has been the first choice for Lowcountry families. Now we’re proud to take that tradition to a whole new level with the $6 million makeover of the Collins Birthing Center.
Named in honor of Beaufort’s first and much-admired obstetrician, the late Dr. Earnest S. Collins, the Center offers expectant families an experience that’s also one-of-a-kind.
You won’t find a hospital inside, but a spacious haven complete with beautifully remodeled birthing suites, an all-new waiting room, fresh furnishings and locally themed artwork throughout.
The facility enhancements are matched by several spa-like perks for new moms. And we’ve redesigned with your family in mind, too, with more flexible and cozy accommodations for all to share in this joyous time.
Take a peek inside to see what we’ve done. Then be sure to join an upcoming tour to experience it all firsthand.

Welcome Your Baby with a Wow Experience
The new Collins Birth Center delivers the safe and supportive care our communities have always counted on — with a modern mix of amenities you and your family will love:
Care You Can Trust
At Beaufort Memorial, both mom and baby are in great hands. The Center’s dedicated maternity team includes eight board-certified OBGYNs, here to see you through pregnancy, birth and beyond. Our skilled and compassionate nurses offer more than 100 years of obstetrical experience on every shift and will be by your side throughout your stay. We also have a pediatrician right on-site to visit with you soon after birth, plus around-the-clock coverage to address any newborn needs.
Comfort & Convenience
We’re here to cater to your needs, so you can feel at ease. Your experience begins as soon as you arrive with registration right at your bedside, and continues in our labor and delivery rooms where everything comes to you. We offer 24/7 in-house anesthesia to help ensure a comfortable labor. For unplanned and scheduled C-sections, our dedicated OR is right across the hall. When you’re ready to leave, we can have your medications delivered straight to your room, saving you a trip to the pharmacy on the way home.
Beautiful Birthing & Recovery Suites
All rooms have been remodeled into extremely spacious yet cozy settings. Lowcountry-inspired murals offer a sense of peace and calm, along with all-new furnishings. One of our most innovative additions to each labor and delivery and postpartum room is a multi-purpose furniture system that can be transformed from a couch to a bed to a combination rocker and glider, or seats that face each other with a table between them for intimate dining. Take a look at our photo gallery or see for yourself at one of our monthly tours.
Breastfeeding Support
Breastfeeding is a wonderful — and sometimes challenging — experience. Our certified breastfeeding counselors and trained nurses are available to coach you right at the bedside. Once you’re home, you can call our warm line day or night at 843-522-5147 for ongoing guidance.
Special Care Nursery
Should your little one arrive early or need extra attention, you’ll find peace of mind with our Level II Nursery. The unit is staffed 24/7 by board-certified pediatricians and nurses, specially trained to care for pre-term babies born 32 weeks and up. Respiratory and physical therapists are also on-hand to promote growth and recovery.
Keeping Baby Safe and Sound
The Birthing Center is equipped with Hugs®, a state-of-the-art security system in which we attach an electronic tag to one of your newborn’s ankles. This allows them to be monitored 24/7, so we always know that they’re snug in their bassinet or in your arms. The Center is also a locked unit, with secure systems of checking in and out, and we require all staff members to wear photo IDs.
Visitor Guidelines
We are honored to be part of our patients' birth experience and support each mother's wishes when it comes to family presence. Please see our visitation guidelines for the Collins Birthing Center.
