The triage nurse:

• Determines how serious your condition is and what further evaluation is needed.
• Asks you what symptoms or events led you to the emergency department.
• Asks about your medical history, medications, allergies and immunizations.
• Measures your temperature, heart rate, blood pressure and weight.
• May give you medication for fever or pain.
• May order X-rays.

We strive to see you promptly. Waiting times may increase when trauma patients or seriously ill patients arrive unexpectedly.

Yes, generally, but limited to one. We aim to keep your loved ones informed and to allow one of them to be with you.

If you have insurance you will pay your copayment at the time of your visit and will be billed later for any balance due after insurance. If you do not have insurance, you may be required to pay for your care at the time of the visit. You will also receive a bill from the physician and other specialists. Financial assistance is available.

Yes, and you are also encouraged to arrange follow-up appointments with your regular physician.
