About Dr. Scott Cummings

"I love being a physician and getting to know my patients. They all have such an interesting life story and I enjoy getting a glimpse of it. They are very much like family and I always try to treat them that way."

A founding partner, in 2008, of Palmetto Medical Group, Dr. Scott Cummings brings more than three decades’ experience in preventing, diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illness to the care of patients 18 years old and above at the Beaufort Memorial Physician Partners practice.

Dr. Cummings includes among his professional interests disease prevention and wellness and biochemical research. Several of his research-related articles have appeared in peer-reviewed journals.

An Indiana native raised in Virginia, Dr. Cummings practiced internal medicine at a local primary and urgent care clinic before the founding of Palmetto Medical Group. Earlier, he was an emergency medical services physician and section chief at medical centers in Virginia and Georgia. From 1992 to 1995 he served as an assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

Dr. Cummings and his wife, Wendy, who have five children, chose the Lowcountry for the boating, fishing, hunting and tennis opportunities it affords their family. Active in their church, Cummings family members all take part in domestic and international mission work, including on an annual trip to Belize.
