The addition of a new provider to Beaufort Memorial Urology Specialists will expand the range of services available to residents of the Lowcountry and beyond.

Matthew “Matt” Baker, PharmD, PA-C, is skilled as a certified physician assistant and as a pharmacist. At the urology practice he will work with its clinical team to assess and manage treatment for acute and chronic urological disorders that most frequently can be addressed with medication rather than surgery.

A Yemassee native and self-described “Lowcountry boy,” Baker completed several clinical rotations at Beaufort Memorial during his PA training. He came to Urology Specialists after seven years as a physician assistant at a urology practice in Bluffton, where he gained expertise in cystoscope procedures and active monitoring of patients with an elevated PSA level and those at the conclusion of their prostate cancer treatment. For the first nine years of his medical career, he was employed as a pharmacist before determining that his heart lay in direct patient care.

Baker holds a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from South University in Savannah and a Doctor of Pharmacy from Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

“With the addition of Mr. Baker to our medical staff, we will significantly increase our ability to treat the full range of urological disorders,” said Russell Baxley, Beaufort Memorial president & CEO. “Our community is sure to benefit a great deal from his care.”

Beaufort Memorial Urology Specialists offers women and men expertise and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of urinary system diseases and conditions, including those affecting the kidneys, bladder, adrenal glands, ureters, urethra and male reproductive organs. At the practice, located at 1055 Ribaut Road, Suite 10, in Beaufort, Baker will join board-certified urologist Louis Plzak, M.D., and certified physician assistants Kristin Callaghan and Nancy Thomas.
