Common Aesthetic Treatment Options

Taking care of your skin and correcting early signs of aging can be part of your self-care routine. Medical aesthetic treatments can help you look and feel your best, with few side effects.

Injectables

Injectables are substances that are injected under the skin to enhance your appearance.

  • Neurotoxins, such as Botox®, are used to smooth facial wrinkles and frown lines. They work by temporarily weakening or paralyzing specific muscles or blocking nerve signals. The results typically last about three months.
  • Dermal fillers, including various formulations of Juvéderm®, create a smoother or fuller look in your face, lips, cheeks, chin or the backs of your hands. They are naturally absorbed over time. The results of fillers, also known as injectable implants, typically last from six months to a year, depending on your body's metabolism.

Skincare

For some skin conditions, such as psoriasis, scarring or acne, you might not get your desired results with over-the-counter products. Your healthcare provider can prescribe products (sometimes called medical-grade skincare) with more potent or concentrated ingredients.

Latisse®

Latisse®, or bimatoprost ophthalmic solution, is a prescription drug that makes eyelashes grow longer, thicker and darker. It is dabbed on the upper eyelash line daily. It can take up to four weeks to see results.

Benefits of Medical Aesthetics

Medical aesthetics are becoming increasingly popular, delivering naturally beautiful results without undergoing a surgical procedure. You can achieve a healthy, rejuvenated and elegant look with short recovery times. Most people feel that treatment improves their self-esteem, emotional well-being and quality of life.

Like any medical procedure, it is important to choose a skilled provider with expertise in aesthetic medicine. Always ask questions before any medical spa treatment and make sure you see a qualified physician. Your healthcare provider will discuss possible risks and side effects, which could include allergic reactions, skin redness, irritation, or swelling. Tell them right away about any symptoms.

How Are Medical Aesthetics Performed?

You can access a full range of medical aesthetic procedures at Okatie Medical Pavilion. Your healthcare provider will examine your face or body and determine the exact places to treat.

Treatments such as neurotoxin injections can take as little as 15 minutes. You can usually resume work or normal activities afterward.

If you are having dermal fillers, your provider will tell you how to prepare for treatment. They may numb your skin for a more comfortable experience.

Recovery times range from a few days to two or three weeks. You might experience redness, swelling, bruising and discomfort after some treatments. Follow advice on cleansing and protecting your skin, resting and scheduling follow-up visits.
