About Dr. Louis Remynse
“When my patients are making treatment decisions, I take as much time as needed to explain their options and help them choose the one they’re most comfortable with.”
Louis Remynse, M.D., brings nearly four decades of clinical and surgical experience to Beaufort Memorial Urology Specialists. At the practice the board-certified urologist diagnoses and treats a wide range of chronic and acute urological disorders. A member of the Society of Urologic Oncology, Dr. Remynse specializes in robot-assisted surgical treatments for bladder, kidney and prostate cancers.
Areas of Expertise
- Urological Cancers – Cancers that occur in the bladder, kidney and prostate, among other locations.
- Robotic Surgery – Surgery in which very small tools are attached to a mechanical arm controlled by a surgeon that enhances visualization and reduces incision size.
- Kidney Stones – Hard deposits of minerals and salts that can form anywhere inside the urinary tract, from the kidneys to the bladder, and can be painful to pass.
- Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) – A common noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland, which may slow or block the flow of urine.
- Urinary Incontinence – A loss of bladder control resulting in leakage of urine.

Background
Dr. Remynse came to Urology Specialists from Cedarwood Medical Center in St. Joseph, Mich., and earlier practiced at urology groups and medical centers in Pennsylvania, Maine and Illinois. He expected family medicine to be his specialty, he says, but a urology rotation and the chance to witness a radical cystectomy (removal of bladder and adjacent lymph nodes) during his third year of medical school changed his mind. He sees urology as the perfect fit for him, combining as it does the opportunity to both get to know patients and perform complex procedures.
Michigan natives, Dr. Remynse and his wife, Susie, a board-certified nurse practitioner at Beaufort Memorial Cancer Genetics and High-Risk Program, have two young sons. The couple love spending time together as a family, especially outdoors, and running road races as friendly competitors.
