About Mr. Eric Gearhart

Eric Gearhart, a board-certified physician assistant, joined Beaufort Memorial Lady's Island Internal Medicine in 2014. At the practice, he works in collaboration with collaboration with the practice's board-certified internal medicine specialists and nurse practitioners to prevent, diagnose and treat acute and chronic illness in adult patients.
Areas of Expertise
- Adult Primary Care – Preventive care and treatment of minor illnesses and injuries and structured treatment programs for chronic disease.
- Diabetes – A chronic condition characterized by abnormally high levels of glucose, or sugar, in the blood that affects how the body turns food into energy and can cause damage to the heart, nerves, kidneys or eyes.
- Hypertension – Elevated blood pressure that over time can cause the heart to work overtime and pump harder, possibly leading to heart attack, stroke, heart failure or kidney failure.
- Preventative Care – Check-ups, immunizations, tests and screenings used to prevent serious diseases and medical conditions or to detect them before they become major problems.
- Minor office procedures – Procedures such as joint injections, skin biopsies, ingrown toenail removal.
Video Visits
Mr. Gearhart offers virtual visits for patients needing medication checks, standard chronic illness management, sick visits and follow-up care for certain conditions. If interested, ask about the option when scheduling.
Background
Mr. Gearhart came to the Beaufort Memorial after two and a half years at Beaufort Family Care. A retired Navy officer with 26 years of active military service, he is a former battalion medical officer for the 1st, 3rd and 4th battalions at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.
During his military career, Mr. Gearhart also worked at Naval Hospital Beaufort, where he was the only physician assistant to be named department head of family medicine, and served as medical officer of public health at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.
Mr. Gearhart and his wife, Angela, have two children. He enjoys music and motor sports.
