The Beaufort Memorial Cochrane Heart Center offers:
- Preventive Care. We can evaluate your heart risk, teach you how to avoid heart and vascular problems, and help improve your quality of life.
- Diagnosis. We can identify problems with the heart and circulatory system using the latest testing methods, including diagnostic nuclear cardiology cardiac catheterization.
- Emergency interventions if you suffer an ST-elevated myocardial infarction (STEMIs), the deadliest form of heart attack.
- Stabilization after a heart attack. Our highly trained emergency department staff and cardiologists can help stabilize you after a heart attack, and, if needed, prepare you for transfer to an academic medical center for surgery or additional treatment.
- Vascular surgery. We can often surgically correct peripheral arterial disease and other issues of the arteries and veins.
- Cardiac rehabilitation. Our staff brings its expertise to an extensive menu of rehabilitation services to help you get back to your normal life after heart problems.
Nationally Recognized Care
Beaufort Memorial is accredited by The Joint Commission for our speed and skill in caring for patients with heart-attack symptoms and other cardiac emergencies. Our proven protocols allow physicians to reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack—greatly improving outcomes. We’re also able to better monitor patients when it’s unclear if they’re experiencing a coronary event, which ensures we’re not sending patients home too early or needlessly admitting them to the hospital.
Beaufort Memorial is one of just 78 hospitals in the country to earn the prestigious Platinum Performance Award from the American College of Cardiology. Our program was recognized for consistently providing timely treatment to patients suffering a STEMI, a cardiac event that occurs when a coronary artery is blocked, depriving the heart of oxygen-rich blood. To clear the clot and restore blood flow, we insert a balloon into the artery in a procedure called coronary angioplasty.
Beaufort Memorial is also among just a few providers in the Lowcountry certified by the state to perform elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Our board-certified interventional cardiologists specialize in this non-surgical treatment to open blocked arteries and restore blood flow to the heart. Elective PCI can be used to prevent heart attacks, relieve or reduce angina, alleviate congestive heart failure and help you potentially avoid surgical treatments like coronary artery bypass.
