Physicians are key partners in meeting the Beaufort Memorial mission to enhance the quality of life in the Lowcountry through improved health, innovative partnerships and superior care. You have the option to join the hospital medical staff as an independent practitioner or Beaufort Memorial Physician Partners which employs more than 150 board-certified physicians at 18 practices throughout the region.
In addition to primary care, our physicians practice in specialties including cardiology, gastroenterology, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, orthopedics, pulmonology, psychiatry, and vascular surgery. Our practices are anchored by board-certified physicians, PAs and NPs, along with onsite office and clinical staff, who are supported by practice operations, patient finance, insurance, recruitment, education, safety/infection prevention and communications teams.
Advanced practice registered nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants are key to keeping our medical practices functioning at their best. At Beaufort Memorial, advanced practice providers help patients get the care they need when they need it. Board-certified independent advanced practice providers are also welcome to join the hospital medical staff.

Our diagnostics and therapeutics teams support direct patient care using technologies and tools to diagnose conditions, support clinical decisions and prepare treatments and preventive interventions. Our diagnostics teams include the laboratory, pharmacy, respiratory and cardiopulmonary therapy, cardiac catheterization lab, and imaging and nuclear medicine departments.
Laboratory
Our laboratory specialists are responsible for collecting and testing patient blood, bodily fluids or tissue samples. Some roles in our laboratory include:
- Lab assistant, who handles patient orders and prepares samples for the medical technologist
- Medical technologist, who performs laboratory testing
- Phlebotomist, who collects patient samples
Pharmacy
Our pharmacy team plays an important part in patient care at Beaufort Memorial, working closely with nurses, physicians and advanced practice providers across departments to ensure patients receive the medications they need.
Pharmacists compound, package and prepare sterile and non-sterile drugs in a state-of-the-art clean room and work alongside pharmacy techs to ensure automated dispensing cabinets are stocked to safely support patient care.
Compliant with all new USP regulations, the clean room is outfitted with advanced technologies that keep Beaufort Memorial’s pharmacy department at the forefront of pharmacologic care.
Respiratory
The respiratory department is responsible for performing diagnostics and therapies for cardiopulmonary health, such as stress tests, EKGs and pulmonary rehabilitation. The people who perform these tests or therapies are either cardiopulmonary assistants — responsible for performing cardiographic testing, such as EKGs — or respiratory care practitioners, who provide respiratory therapies.
Interventional Cardiology
The team in our state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab supports board-certified interventional cardiologists who perform both emergency and elective procedures right on-site. Beaufort Memorial is one of just a select few providers certified by the state to perform elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Imaging and Nuclear Medicine
Beaufort Memorial imaging departments serve patients in Beaufort and at the Okatie Medical Pavilion.
It takes many dedicated, experienced providers to make this service happen.
We hire specialized technologists including radiation, CT, MRI, mammography, ultrasound and nuclear medicine, as well as radiologists, nurses and support staff to keep our imaging departments running as efficiently and smoothly as possible.
People in direct patient care interact with patients in a variety of ways. You are often our front line of service to patients, serving in nursing roles or as physical/speech/occupational therapists, patient care assistants, rehabilitation technicians, surgical assistants and emergency room technicians.
At Beaufort Memorial, hospitality is a key component of our exceptional service. For us, that involves anything from the dietary department to housekeeping and maintenance services to security, transport services, greeters and patient concierge volunteers. Our patients and employees are our neighbors, and we want to show them the kind of hospitality they might receive in our homes. That means a welcoming and safe environment, delicious meals, clean rooms, and well maintained equipment and facilities.
People in support service roles assist providers and prepare equipment for use. At Beaufort Memorial, this could be anything from a supply clerk to an operating room technician, or a materials coordinator to a central sterile specialist. We make it easy to find your fit.
