About Dr. Edward Blocker

“I strive to perform a thorough, individualized evaluation of every patient in order to formulate a customized plan of care specific to that person.”

Highly experienced, skilled and respected, Dr. Edward Blocker specializes in total replacement of the hip and knee. He stays proficient in leading-edge surgical techniques with the best evidence of precision fitting of total joint implants and implant longevity.

Dr. Blocker performs state-of-the-art procedures including robotic-assisted total knee and hip replacement at the Joint Replacement Center at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where he is currently the chairman of orthopedics.

Areas of Expertise

  • Hip Replacement – After conservative treatments are exhausted, it may be time to consider surgical removal of the damaged bone and cartilage and replacement with prosthetic components.
  • Knee Replacement – Knee arthroplasty surgically replaces the weight-bearing surfaces of the knee joint to relieve pain and disability, when conservative measures no longer work.
  • Mako Robotic-Arm-Assisted Knee & Hip Replacements – When the Mako SmartRoboticsTM system is used in minimally invasive joint replacement procedures it enables the surgeon to implant the prosthetic hip or knee components with greater precision and accuracy, resulting in better outcomes.
  • Shoulder Arthroscopy – A surgical procedure using a small camera into the shoulder joint to diagnose and treat problems.

Video Visits

Dr. Blocker offers virtual visits in certain circumstances for patient follow up. If interested, ask about the option when scheduling.

Background

As a board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Blocker has cared for patients in Beaufort for more than 20 years. He came to Lowcountry Medical Group from orthopedic residency in 1998 and joined Beaufort Memorial Orthopaedic Specialists in 2009.

Growing up in Charleston, Dr. Blocker was influenced by both his grandfathers, one an orthopedic surgeon, the other a carpenter. By the age of 7, he already knew that he, too, wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon. “I like working with my hands and using them to help solve my patients’ problems,” he says.

College sweethearts, Dr. Blocker and his wife, Tami, have a son and two daughters. He is an avid outdoorsman whose hunting and fishing supply the family table year-round with game and fish.
